Tokyo, 22 March 2017 – On 25 February 2017, Nippon Renewable Energy K.K. (NRE) broke ground on the construction of a 41.0 MWdc solar power plant in Yaita City, Tochigi Prefecture. In a ceremony that preceded the groundbreaking, NRE, civil works project partner Earth Design and landowners prayed for safe construction on the site. The NRE Yaita Solar Power Plant is slated to commerce operations in the second quarter of 2018 and will provide clean electricity to over 10,000 households. It is one of three projects NRE is developing in Tochigi prefecture.

Adam Ballin, NRE Representative Director, said, “NRE is proud to partner with local stakeholders in Yaita City to create over 200 jobs, support the community and supply low-cost, clean solar energy. As a renewable energy leader in Japan, decreasing the country’s reliance on fossil fuels and nuclear power, while at the same time increasing its energy independence, is of utmost importance to us.”

NRE is headquartered in Tokyo with offices in Aomori, Fukushima and Ibaraki Prefectures. NRE is focused on the long-term ownership and operation of solar power plants incorporating the highest standards of technological and operational excellence. As a vertically integrated Independent Power Producer (IPP), NRE has a fully integrated local team of 61 professionals with the in-house capabilities to take projects from initial planning to commercial operations, covering all phases of project development and financing, technical engineering, construction management, and operations and maintenance.
